~ MINUTES for MARCH 5, 2009 ~

New Business:
Discussion of Helen & Bill Gorman asking to be taken off of the board; discussed chamber members interested in replacement for the board position; it was voted that Jean Butler be on the board with her approval.
Website maintenance was discussed and the bill for the annual website hosting was paid through April 2009. Team B will no longer be maintaining the site and there is a need to determine the hosting and site maintenance responsibilities. Discussion was made regarding the hosting, graphics and elements software. It was suggested that we check with a web site/ technical person through the school to seek alternatives and ideas for the upkeep.
Banner advertising - it was discussed that the Banner will no longer give chamber members the discount for advertising. A full-page will cost $400. It was discussed that we will not have a chamber page for this month.
Jack Moore presented information on the Billboard for Knightstown. He spoke with Mark Fort who had rented it for $5000 but will rent it to the chamber for $4000 and it is available. It was also discussed that we would need the size in order to order a sign to put on the board. Gary Riley was contacted from Olympus Media. This company had done billboards from Knightstown to Richmond and some westbound boards. A 12x40 (typical size is 10x36) month to month, annual amount is $3600. The production costs to design and install a vinyl wrap with a 2-year warranty would be $1128.00. One of their clients is the Wilbur Wright Museum.
It was discussed to add to the Citizen of the Year event a “Business of the Year” award to promote a local business. There was also some discussion as to whether it would conflict with the Citizen of the Year Banquet. It was determined that it may be awarded at a different event or a separate banquet.
Ameriana Bank will hold a Business After Hours in March. All businesses are invited to attend. Date not given at this time.

Old Business:
The Sofa Kings are booked for 7-11-09 confirmed. It will be the 1st summer concert. The Gym will be the alternate location in case of rain.
The banner was ordered from Signs by Sulane; need by 4/25/2009.
Window Vinyl’s for chamber members discussed website referred by Jack Moore.
New Business:
The letter of resignation was read from Helen Gorman. Jean Butler expressed interest in the board and it was voted and Jean accepted.
The Main Street Program meeting was discussed and the chamber was represented at the meeting. It was agreed that this was not a chamber function but the chamber would offer the address to the organization and the use of the office. Currently Cumberland, New Palestine, Greenfield are organizing their Main Street Programs. There were 4 chamber members in attendance to the recent meeting.
It was discussed that there are only two chamber members as signators on the checking account. It was agreed that Penny Shaneyfelt would be added in case the others could not be available to sign checks.
A letter from Senator Jean Leising thanking the chamber for their correspondence regarding the Knightstown home and everyone was encouraged to contact legislators.
Hinsey Brown was recognized as the small business of the year nominee for the state of Indiana. They have their newest location in Knightstown, IN.
Discussed the Third House Forum luncheon at Raintree held by the New Castle Chamber of Commerce. Members discussed the possibility of having the representatives come to Knightstown. Jean Krauss contracted several and they would be interested in attending.
As discussed in last month's meeting regarding putting pamphlets in the local hotels, Jean Krauss took several and all of the hotels agreed to put information in their lobbies.
It was brought up that the American Legion does not like the Fall Festival dates because Legion Days is on the same weekend. The vendor contracts have already gone out and several have been returned, the Chamber is already in contract with several. It was discussed that the Chamber and American Legion work together to incorporate a positive union of both festivals and incorporate the American Legion event into the advertising and promotion for this weekend.
Christmas decoration order deadline has been extended to March 31. The items considered are the lighted garland on every other light pole. The payment will be due in August or September.
Steve Brooks represented the Chamber at the town board meeting. Storage of the Christmas decorations, care and proper placement was discussed. This involvement was approved by the town members. There was some concern regarding asking the community for donations for the decorations? The question was raised about whether it was our responsibility to provide decorations. The board approved to order.
Rusty Johnson discussed the Scholarship Citizen of the Year. They will be trying to have one meeting and the scholarship program to run in the paper for a couple of weeks. Bob will host the meeting. Banquet date set in the Hoosier Gym for June 2nd. The nomination form on the chamber page and posted in school websites. April 15th is the deadline.
Jubilee Days was discussed by Jeannie Krauss and New Castle has helped in regards to the parade floats, National Guard, Old Fashion days.
Jean Kraus discussed the Tourism luncheon attended and the opportunity with Whitewater Broadcasting to trade product used in their auction in trade for advertising time.
The chamber page in The Banner was discussed; there will not be one in the March paper. Sue will meet with Eric from the Banner regarding the advertising rates. Board discussed that if the Banner doesn’t offer discounts to members then we will only have a half page ad for chamber information since members can advertise anywhere else in the paper for the same price.
It was discussed and agreed that a thank you card should go to Bill and Helen Gorman for their service with the chamber.
Team B is out of business and it was discussed that we will need to resolve the maintenance of the website. Darryl Hood will speak to the computer tech at a local school to check on ways to manage the site.
The question of whether there was insurance coverage for the Parade and Steve Brooks confirmed there is.
Historic Knightstown walking tour - the chamber agreed to participate. It will be sometime in May and correlates to the fitness initiative by Gov. Daniels. May 16th is the tentative date.
Steve Brooks attended the town meeting and extended an invitation to the Town Board. Valerie Trump and Terry Guerin would be representatives at the Chamber for the Town.
Danny Webber gave an update on the April 25th Crime Watch event. There are 17 booths. Crime Watch will have 3 celebrities so far. Thompson BBQ will be there to serve and to expect lots of surprises.
