This program contracts with the National Trust for historic preservation in Washington D.C. which led to the National Main Street project in 1977.

This program was established to aid towns in restoring their main street areas in order to boost community morale and thereby act as an economic stimulus for the town.

There is no cost for a town to join, however there are some requirements, such attendance of seminars, as well as certain design and sign standards.

IMS Believes a 4 Point Approach for Success:

  1. Organization

-         Create a Mission Statement

-         Create a Vision Statement

-         Work the Plan, a 12-18 mo. “to do” list

  1. Design
  2. Promotion – Image is everything = Everything is reality
  3. Economic Restructuring

There are grants available for items such as new sidewalks, façade improvements, etc.

It would be helpful to have the town council involved.

The program manager is Shae Young.  Her contact information is 317-232-8910, shyoung@ocra.in.gov

The chamber will run an announcement in The Banner to see how much interest there may be in the community to assist with this project.
